The first Sunday working bee this year (8 January) tackled the weed and irrigation issues in both our new planting and the old Project Gold planting. Plants at Korimako Corner are surviving well, mostly. The sun+wind evapotranspiration on some days has really put them under stress and some are showing signs of their inability to transport minerals from the soil to their growing tips. At least one has given up the fight, in addition to several kowhai that earlier on objected strongly to transplanting. Thanks to all those vollies who have kept the plants watered over the last weeks. A new scheduling system is being tested to see if it will work better and give everyone a chance to engage in some quiet reflection time while keeping our little bundles of photosynthetic joy alive and well.
